Minimalism in the author’s interpretation: soft and cozy interior of an apartment of 125 sq. m. m in Moscow

Minimalism is a style that is now experiencing a rebirth. At the same time, it does not look like the «old» minimalism: it is softer and more elegant than its predecessor. Tatiana Mironova’s new work is in this comfortable style.

Area: 125 sq. m

The apartment is located in Moscow on Leninsky Prospekt, in a house built on the site of the Sputnik Hotel. More precisely, these are two apartments combined into one. The initial data turned out to be successful: the house has panoramic windows with magnificent views of Moscow — Kosygin Street. When the customers purchased this apartment, a competent redevelopment was already done in it, logically dividing the front and private parts of the apartment, as well as floors, bathrooms were partially made and there was already a kitchen.

The living room is located in an open space. It seems even bigger due to the white paint on the walls and ceiling. Laconic furniture and lamps enhance the feeling of spaciousness. Next to the TV panel is a copy of the painting by Alexander Zhernoklyuev, made on glass.

The new owner bought this apartment and invited architect Tatiana Mironova as a decorator. When the conversation turned to style, he said that he prefers minimalism, which Tatiana was very happy about. «Minimalistic interior design was in demand at the beginning of my professional career,» says Tatiana Mironova. «I adore him and I’m happy to get back to him on this project.»

The color and texture of natural wood add softness to the interior and create a beautiful rhyme to nature (outside the windows there is an impressive view of the Sparrow Hills). A few decorative accents turned out to be enough to sharpen the theme in the interior: a lamp made of shells, a woolen blanket and pumpkins of an unusual «baroque» shape. This is a good idea for a seasonal decor in a laconic space.

In the author’s interpretation of Tatiana, minimalism is a clear, understandable, at the same time not at all rigid and not purist style: on the contrary, it is very pleasant, soft and even enveloping.

View of the living room and kitchen from the hallway. Behind the doors there is a bathroom and a laundry room. The floor-to-ceiling mirror further «reveals» the space, creating a beautiful refrain to panoramic windows.

A fragment of a kitchen-dining room and a corridor combining the front and private parts of the apartment. In the back you can see the master bedroom. One of the spatial axes is constructed in such a way that it «goes» outside, outside the apartment. Thanks, among other things, to this reception, the apartment seems larger than it really is.

Furniture and decorative items were bought out of stock. A comfortable sofa was placed on the border of the living room and the kitchen-dining room. Its back can be moved, and thus get additional seats at the dining table. «I wanted naturalness, and I bought a table lamp with an interesting base,» recalls Tatiana. The lamp is really unusual — its base resembles a pile of fruits. The composition of simple—shaped vases with branches is a worthy continuation of the theme of nature. And in this space, she is the leader. It is set by the views from the windows, especially attractive in summer: the greenery of trees in the urban landscape. It is continued by natural materials — wood and stone, metal and ceramics, wool, cotton and silk.

The contrast of textures gives a special elegance to an almost monochrome space: matte facades of kitchen cabinets and shiny porcelain stoneware, wool sofa upholstery and a carpet of shimmering silk. The color and texture of natural wood add softness to the interior.

The master bedroom. The author of the project gracefully used, in addition to the reception of contrast, the method of assimilation. For example, a mirror in a straw frame — and a straw hat, a velour headboard — and a carpet similar in texture.

The color palette is also «about nature». This is a soft shade of white in the decoration of the walls and ceiling, milky curtains and a similar shade of an armchair cushion, a pearl-gray carpet and a more saturated gray sofa tone. Beige headboard and natural straw color in the mirror finish. The palette is very balanced and resembles, for example, the shades of pebbles on the beach, where each pebble is combined with another in color. In the color palette, Tatiana Mironova likes to combine warm and cold shades, working with the interior palette according to the laws of painting. So, in this apartment, the warm red color of natural walnut wood has become an ideal companion for cool white.

The study area in the master bedroom is subject to the general principles of space organization: laconism, neutral palette, lots of natural wood.

Walnut finish brings comfort to the interior, balances coolness and «air», which are created by white surfaces, mirrors and glass. By the way, the painting in the living room is also made on glass. It is symbolic. Her characters, a man and a woman, look into the distance, and it turns out in the context of the interior that their gaze is directed towards the window, where the Moscow landscape unfolds from floor to ceiling behind the glass and the sky is constantly changing. The beautifully constructed relationship between the exterior and the interior is another great success of this project.
