6 stunning pools from western design stars

We are preparing for water procedures, inspired by beautiful world-class projects.

1. Almost a water park

This villa on the coast of the Sea of Cortez in Mexico was built by architect Juan Zapato, and designed by star designer Martin Lawrence Bullard. His projects are especially loved by Hollywood divas. Although the house stands on the very shore, the slopes here are rocky and the sea is rough, so you will not be able to swim. The pool on the plateau near the house and the lounge at it serve these purposes.

Zapato and Bullard came up with a beautiful recreational area, where there is even a water slide, which the children of the owners adore. In addition to sun loungers, there are floating ones on the edge. And the pool itself with a snow-white exterior is tiled with Italian brand Bisazza.

2. Craft project

American Kelly Werstler makes spectacular projects. She does not hide that she considers herself primarily a decorator. But what a decor comes out from under her pen! This pool area with lounge is made for a hotel on an exotic island, but is far from a walk-through public project. The interior is decorated in sand tones. The pool is made in the manner of infinity pool — when the water edge merges with the horizon line. There are more and more antiques from furniture. The image is complemented by spectacular large accessories created by local artisans (Kelly is a big fan of the fashion trend craft design).

3. Brutalism

The Czech Formafatal bureau is one of the most famous in Eastern Europe. And although the office is based in Prague, architects are building all over the world. So, this project was implemented in general on the other side of the ocean — in Costa Rica. The architects built the house from scratch, «implicating» it in the jungle. Due to the fact that the property is located in seclusion, it became possible to make the house literally an open space. The facades are made of perforated metal sheets and panoramic glazing — so that every room (including bedrooms and bathrooms) is open to nature.

The pool area is designed in the same brutalist spirit as the whole project. This is the realm of concrete. Even benches are cast from it here, on which you can throw a robe while swimming. The decor is laconic: a pair of cement planters and lounge chairs.

4. Ceramic pool

Frenchman Shahan Minassian works for the richest people in the world. He admits that they value exclusivity above all. Therefore, for their projects, the designer does almost everything to order or buys spot vintage, antique items.

So, when decorating this pool area in the Paris Palace Hotel de Crillon, he used furniture of his own design. He masterfully beat the light pouring through the glass lantern in the ceiling, adding vintage lamps made of so-called frosty glass (when the surface is in a small crack). But the main know-how of the interior is a luxurious ceramic panel decorating one of the walls. Bright blue color, high relief, abstract plot — the panel was made to order specifically for this space and will never be repeated.

5. Above the city

Of course, swimming pools are mostly made in private homes and not in megacities. But this project is just an exception. Boutique hotel in Kuala Lumpur stands in the middle of urban development. However, due to the mild and warm climate all year round, architects from the world-famous Neri&Hu bureau had the opportunity to make a large outdoor pool with a lounge around it, from where breathtaking views of the Asian metropolis open up.

The space is decorated in the style of local architecture: a lot of wood and latticed surfaces, which, on the one hand, give a soft shadow without «killing» natural light, and on the other, serve to better ventilate all areas.

6. Aquarium pool

The original move of the Brazilian architect Fernanda Marquez is a swimming pool on the lumen. The architect built the house from scratch and could afford to implement the design of any oddity. Accordingly, she arranged a deep 20-meter outdoor pool in the courtyard, on that narrow strip of land that adjoins the fence. But she did not close it from the side of the house, leaving the swimmers in plain sight.

Thus, it turned out to be an aquarium pool, clearly visible from all the rooms of the first floor of the house. A living wall serves as a natural fence for him and part of the garden, fortunately, everything grows with a bang in the tropics (the house is located in Sao Paulo).
